Drishti on life

Yoga and wellness services with a personal touch

What is Drishti?

Drishti in yoga is most often explained as to gaze on a fixed point to allow the mind to move inwards or a point of concentration. We at DoLife (Drishti on Life ) want to concentrate on respecting life and helping people to find their total wellbeing, be it through yoga, meditation or another method.
Yoga and most services DoLife offers have traditionally been passed on from a Master to his/her Student.

How can we help You?

With the realities of life it is not always possible to attend a class or it is not possible to attend the classes of the same teacher even if you would like to. DoLife gives you the opportunity to choose and create a relationship with a teacher who will look after your yoga practice, guide you to the world of meditation, mindfulness or nutrition or help you find your way in some other way. You can practise with the videos with one or all the teachers and book a private online session with your chosen teacher when you feel like it.

What is Yoga ?

Yoga is a wonderful way to improve your health and wellbeing on many levels. It is a physical, mental and spiritual practise. Whether you are looking for a new way to keep yourself fit, a more balanced you or a way towards a more spiritual life, yoga is a wonderful method.

Choose your style of Yoga

We offer different styles of yoga. Ashtanga yoga being the most dynamic form where we do the practise according to the teachings of Sri K Pattabhi Jois. To take part in the Ashtanga yoga classes either an introductory course or previous experience is highly recommended. Vinyasa Yoga and Restorative Yoga classes have a  slower pace and often there is a special theme for the class. If you only have a moment during the workday, check out our Office Yoga classes. And there is Yoga for Children as well

What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga Yoga was transmitted outside of India by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a series of postures. This process produces intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies both muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

How can it benefit You?

Ashtanga yoga combines a dynamic form of exercise with an effective detoxing and purifying effect which also has major benefits for calming and balancing our nervous system. In the classes we follow the vinyasa combining postures with the movents of the breath. If you have not practised Ashtanga Yoga before, we recommend that you participate on an introductory course before joining the live classes.

What is Children's Yoga?

Hatha Yoga is very natural; we have all practiced it already as babies! We used to breathe naturally using the diaphragm and stretch our body into many yoga poses, like the cobra, crocodile and downward dog. Children’s Yoga is a natural continuation to this bodily journey. In the fun, interactive and age appropriate classes we practice breathing exercises and real yoga poses through stories, games and creative movement. We also practice mindfulness and relaxation practices.
Children’s Yoga classes are a special place for the child to get to know his/her own body, mind and breathing through movement. We practice together but individually and in a non-competitive atmosphere. The children learn how to calm down, get energized, relax or relieve stress according to their individual needs and how to use these skills also in life outside the Yoga class.
Children’s Yoga can be the child’s first hobby or a supporting practice in addition to some other hobby.
*A touch of Laughter Yoga is also always included!
First videos of childrens yoga classes will be released in October 2016.

How can it benefit You?

The effects of Children’s Yoga have been studied widely also in the Western countries. Through practicing yoga the children have improved their motor skills, balance, coordination, body strength and suppleness, in an atmosphere that encourages the children to listen to themselves. Also the ability to relax, concentrate continuously for longer periods, as well as to identify and regulate their own emotional reactions and thought chains are some of the frequently reported effects of Children’s Yoga. Interviewed after yoga courses the children themselves said they believed more in themselves (the development of a positive self-image), handled conflicts with friends better (the development of social skills), as well as slept and generally felt better.
Through our Children’s Yoga classes we hope to help the children to find life-long wellness exercises that carry them and give them positive things for their life path.

What is Office Yoga?

Feeling stiff, tired and unproductive? Take a break from what you are doing and revitalise yourself with a short yoga session right at your office!

How can it benefit You?

This practice does not require a yoga mat or yoga pants, and you can even keep your shoes on for most of the poses. Office yoga brings half sun salutations, twists, stretches and full breathing to your desk. After the session energy flows freely and circulation increases – you are all set to tackle the rest of the day!

What is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga aims to relaxation by offering the body and mind a place to get comfortable and quiet down. Especially in stressful times you might find it hard to relax and unwind on your own. Guided yoga practice will allow the mind to let go and surrender. We use yoga bolsters, blocks, straps and blankets to set up poses that we hold up to 10 minutes at a time – time long enough for the parasympathetic nervous system to activate.

How can it benefit You?

Lots of things are happening inside our bodies when we are stressed. Not only do our jaws clench and muscles tighten – the sympathetic nervous system takes over and releases stress hormone called cortisol into our system. Studies have suggested that cortisol could be one of the causes in many diseases. That is why it is very important to come back to the normal state, the state of parasympathetic nervous system after stressful times. Guided, restorative yoga practice can help you to let go physically and mentally. Total relaxation is not the only way to release stress; even trying to relax counts!

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga where each asana is held from 3 to 5 minutes. Time is increased as the practitioner gets more experienced and used to the practice. Yin yoga combines influences of Indian hatha yoga traditions, Chinese Daoist tradition and Western medicine. With its emphasis on the long-held, moderate, passive stresses of the deep connective tissues, called the fascia, this practice mobilizes and strengthens our joints, ligaments and deep tissues, improves circulation and challenges our patience and concentration. Yin yoga practice asks our mind gently to quiet down and stay present in this moment, in Your body. As the body relaxes and the mind releases, the experience of the asana gets deeper and you will start discovering aspects of your being you might not have ever known before – both physically and mentally. In Yin yoga practice there is no concentration on the asana technique, but the body is allowed to settle down to the position which feels right and where the desired stretch is felt moderately but effectively. Yin yoga invites you to leave behind all the ideas of how you should be and surrender to your inner wisdom.

How can it benefit You?

Yin yoga practice moderately, but effectively, stretches the deep connective tissues of our body. This deep stretch improves the strength, endurance, elasticity and circulation in the tissues. The practice helps your body detox from toxins as it emphasizes the circulation according to different meridians. Yin yoga practice educates your mind to be still, present and really tune into your Self and all its aspects. The practice helps to release stress caused by emotional pain, fear or anger from the physical body. This may lead to changes in mood during and after the practice. This is something not to be scared or annoyed of, but to be grateful for as it again deepens our self knowledge. As you gain more knowledge of your body and mind patterns, you will start being more accepting and compassionate towards yourself, which is the key to having a harmonious and happy relationship with yourself and everyone around you. In other words Yin yoga aims to balance and lighten our body and calm and strengthen our mind.

What is Yoga Therapy?

In Yoga Therapy practice the focus is on the common musculoskeletal issues, such as tight shoulders, sore back etc., which in time may provoke problems in other parts of the body, such as colon, skin and lungs. Yoga therapy combines techniques from Western physiotherapy and Indian yoga therapy with some fundamentals of Ayurveda. Yoga therapy classes consist of sun salutations, standing and sitting asanas, meditation and relaxation. The emphasis is highly on the breath; we connect all movement and asanas with the breath, which is traditionally called the vinyasa style. This vinyasa style creates a gentle flow-like practice which then creates a space for self study.  Asana technique is also of great importance, which leads to a safe way to practice. Yoga therapy classes are for everyone, whether you wish to revitalize, strengthen and/or open up and stretch out your body and mind. Every class has its on theme and together they create a logical continuum. However all the classes can be taken as individual practices.

How can it benefit You?

Human body requires strength and flexibilty in a balanced way to feel healthy and well. Our greatest strength lies deep inside us, in the very core of our body, in the pelvic floor and the tissues supporting the spine, holding us in an upright position and shielding the central nervous channel. Due to the Western sedentary culture, this strength has decreased and can be quite challenging to rediscover. In yoga therapy classes we use techniques to improve the knowledge and usage of this strength, through which the journey towards holistic well-being really begins. With yoga therapy practices and techniques, you can find relief for shoulder pain, maybe even postpone or avoid surgery, you may find relief for asthma, open tight hip joints to relieve lower back pain etc. In the classes we focus carefully on asana technique, so these classes benefit those who wish to  check their technique or get new ideas and inspiration.

What is Vinyasa Flow Yoga?

Vinyasa Flow is an invigorating yet balancing yoga class, where your breath guides you from pose to pose bringing the awareness to your center. This practice is well rounded and includes sun salutations, standing poses, backbends, inversions, forward bends and breathing exercises (pranayama). Join the class and become aware of your strength and tranquil!

How can it benefit You?

Classes are designed around one theme. Class begins with pranayama or other kind of breathing exercise, easy movement and sun salutations. After sun salutations we engage with standing poses and backbends according to the theme of the day. Towards the end of the practice we wind down with inversions and forward bends.

What is Pranayama?

Heart full of breath – change your mind! Pranayama is the fourth limb in Patanjali’s Yoga philosophy meaning the extension of the life force, Prana, by controlling your breath. Pranayama is said to be a bridge between the Asana practice and the meditative awareness by deepening the focus of the mind and by calming down the nervous system. The regular Pranayama practice tackles our deeply ingrained mental habits and behaviour by rewiring the brain regions and conditioned emotions thus affecting our thinking in a positive way. With the millennia old breathing techniques you start experiencing clarity in everyday thinking and touching a deeper, more meaningful being with yourself. As a wonderful by-product you also balance your health and become relaxed and focused with your actions.

How can it benefit You?

The group or private classes will offer the theory of Pranayama, the five preparational “breath-salutations” to open up the energy system, and most importantly teach you several Pranayama techniques to support you in diving deeper into your breath and mind. On-line classes will take you to a practical journey to understand and experience the benefits of Pranayama in your health and thinking. The teaching is based on the teaching of the Pranayama master Sri O.P. Tiwari from Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute (kdham.com) in India where Sami Mälkiä has attended the teacher training course. Welcome to breathe deeper than ever!

What is Meditation?

How do you maintain balance in your life, clear your mind and find the ability to focus on the things that matter to you? When practicing Mindfulness meditation we can easily stop and bring our attention to the moment. Through meditation we learn how to see our experiences clearly, the way they really are. We don’t put our brains on autopilot but strive to stay aware of what is going on within us and around us. Mindfulness meditation is simple; it’s not about burning incense or going to therapy, it’s simply about breathing.

How can it benefit You?

Research performed at respected universities such as Oxford and Harvard shows that the positive effects of mindfulness meditation on mental health and mental strength are a scientific fact. In Finland research is being conducted on the benefits of mindfulness meditation in schools and to prevent work related burnout. Anyone can practice mindfulness meditation almost anywhere. Meditation can bring benefits to most areas of your life.

What is Emotional Freedom Techniques?

Emotional Freedom Techniques is an energy psychology method developed by Gary Craig. It is sometimes also called “acupuncture without needles”. Any physical or emotional problem originates from a blockage in the body’s energy system. By tapping the endings of energy meridians while thinking of some negative experiences or memories we can “cut” the emotional connection to the event. Even after one EFT session the limiting negative beliefs that sabotage our lives and health can be interrupted and cleared, fast and easy.

How can
it benefit You?

EFT therapy has achieved excellent results in different kinds of fear and anxiety issues (panic attacks, anxiety, fear of heights, claustrophobia, fear of performing etc.), pain (e.g. migraine headaches),releasing past traumas, improving relationships and releasing all kind of stress. EFT is also the secret weapon for the athletes who wish to improve their performance (by clearing out old experiences of failure and by strengthening the positive beliefs about the abilities of the body). EFT is an effective self help method that can be used anywhere, anytime.

What is Nutrition Counselling?

Nutrition counselling is a process that aims to support achieving individual goals or treat body imbalances by putting the focus on individual dietary choices, and by making positive changes in terms of the client’s exercise routines, stress levels, thought patterns and emotions. We are all unique with our different symptoms, likes and dislikes, and how our bodies react to specific foods, which is the reason why also dietary recommendations should be as individual and unique as possible. Finding the right dietary choices might be at times challenging, but once successful, results are both positive and long-lasting. In addition to 1-1 nutrition counselling, you can also buy online Food Diary Analysis or benefit from our fast email service.

How can it benefit You?

Research has shown that the single most important risk factor for the development of diseases is a poor and unbalanced diet, since the food that we eat is both our fuel and building block; if this fuel and component that builds and repairs our tissues and cells is not of high quality, it will lead into different imbalances in our body and mind. Whether you need a complete dietary change, want to lose weight or gain muscle, or manage a medical condition like high blood pressure, high cholesterol level or mild gastro-intestinal problems (bloating, absorption problems), want to fine-tune your food choices, detox your body, get more energy or inspiration for new, healthy recipes, nutrition counselling is for you. We will work together to make you feel and look healthier and reach that inner and outer glow that each one of us deserve through our uplifting nutrition counselling process. Our nutrition counsellors will make eating healthy food exciting, tasty, easy and flexible, since eating healthily should be far from rigidly counting calories and mineral/vitamin intakes.
